In six weeks’ time…
“You just have to believe in yourself and demand excellence. You must be able to look at your work and see if it’s really good — you can’t fool yourself. When you look at your photographs, does it honestly feel like you felt when you took the picture? If it doesn’t, it stinks, and that’s because you didn’t catch life at 1/1,000 of a second. It’s out there, you just didn’t catch it, and you’ll have to work at it.” - Paul Fusco, Magnum Photographer.
I came across this quote this morning in American Photo, and it became part of my being. It’s essential to grab thoughts and ideas that can shape your way of thinking, acting and doing. Grab them, and hold them near, refer to them often. That’s why I have my quote board at work. Yes, they’re neat quotes, but they each mean something to me about living life.
It’s been 6 weeks since I moved into my new place. It’s finally almost ready for visitors. Gotta clean the kitchen again, but it’s a small kitchen, so it’s not difficult. Laundry will always be a chore, but apart from the dryer and hamper loads, everything is hung up, not strewn about. Got a few things in the living room to find homes for as well as the bedroom, and one more round of cardboard that needs to find the dumpster.
I’m happy.
Lived a whirlwind romance with my dearest Amy. It ended last week, as my fun began to wane and give way to less desirable feelings and actions after realizing over the course of a few days that I’ve got a great thing, but it’s not going to last the long run, so I prompted its end, and I miss it badly. She treated me so so well, and I think I was pretty good to her for the most part, until the end. I’m probably a big idiot, but time will tell, and it’s best for me not to go on with doubts and subject her to that sort of behavior on my part.
I’ve also been taking my photography more serious than ever. I got some wonderful praise from reputable sources with background, and that’s what it took to jumpstart me. I’m seeing and thinking in frame now. It’s addictive.
I’m going to build a portfolio. Any volunteers as subjects?

i’ll probably opt out of the photoshoot, but i’d love to see your new place…when/if you ever get it ready.
